I am going to nominate Lisa for a Ted Talk. The more nominations the better - so please fill out the form if you feel moved to do so.

Ashley,
Great idea!!!!  Make it easy for us: share the links of her publications and her online videos so we don’t have to search for them.

Woo hoo!

I think she actually has to do a demo. My daughter just did one for TED, and if enough people like the demo on youtube they invite you to New York to do a 5-10 min. talk, and then to California for a 15-min.one. At least that’s the poop from my daughter.

Sounds like a really interesting opportunity.

But I wonder what more needs to be said about community acupuncture, and I say that knowing what I mean is actually a bit different than what I write. So there’s a documentary, a bunch of videos online from WCA and a few other clinics, plenty of press in small, local magazine & newspapers; what do we look forward to seeing on a stage of that scale?

Again, I would love to see something, but a lot of what POCA says means something different to us outside of the US. And TED while TED talks are obviously aimed at an American audience, it’s an opportunity to reach out to an international audience. I watch some of them, I know people in Germany, France, Italy & the UK who have seen some of them too. Even if the focus is on an American audience, which as the centre of the universe will eventually spread to the rest of us, what is the great message that Lisa (and by association, the rest of us) can share?

I’m trying hard not to be too much of a downer, and obviously since I’m not going to do large scale public speaking ever in my life I try to justify neither putting up nor shutting up as just asking questions I think might make some good discussion. The best TED talks I’ve watched are informative & inspiring without being overly political & polarising. Even a topic as true to our hearts as acupuncture can be off putting to both scientific and uninformed groups, does the topic work more towards open access to healthcare? It might work; it offers a way to talk about groups of people and different communities without the the “C” word, but it’s a large topic. Of course there are many more, anyone else?

I’m all for it though in the end; I’ll put my vote in, even if just to see Lisa in a pantsuit (pretty please?) onstage.

Since the theme of the upcoming TED conference is Radical Openness, I think Lisa is a good fit.  They also look for diversity, and do present a tremendous variety of speakers.  Today I watched Swami Smaranananda talk about stillness.  So what’s that got to do with Technology and Entertainment?  I think we should go ahead and nominate her (I already did), and if she’s not chosen now, I think she will in the future.  There’s a lot to this CA movement that cannot yet be articulated and appreciated.  As people’s consciousness grows, she will eventually be recognized by many more.

Feels like I’m at a cocktail party in the 1950s and we’re all talking about someone we don’t acknowledge is standing right beside us; you sexist pigs.
Anyone ask if Lisa, or anyone else, is interested in participating in something like this? If we’re going to continue to point to one person as our representative & leader for everything forever, we could probably ask first.
Although, she is one of the more capable people I’ve met who can strike a good balance between radical and openness. What do you say Ms. Community-Acupuncture?

I did talk to Lisa about it and she said if she got chosen that she would do her best with the speech.

I LOVE this idea.  I LOVE Ted.  I’ll often watch videos with my son before bedtime - it’s great stuff even for a young mind.  Especially for young minds.  A few favorites:

How to Start a Movement (Funny)
A Virtual Choir 2000 Voices Strong (Moving)
Bring on the learning revolution! (Funny and thoughtful)Changing Education Paradigms (Nicely done - same guy as above)

Even if Lisa doesn’t make it into TED right away, there are many TEDx events around the country - see: TedX.  Might be a place to start.

Don’t know what became of the TED talk nomination.  Here’s something similar.  Lisa, would you mind being nominated for this?  Does a fellowship look interesting to you?  It would provide exposure.
