Call for proposals
People’s Organization of Community Acupuncture - 2020 POCAfest RI
Camp Aldersgate, North Scituate, Rhode Island

The People’s Organization of Community Acupuncture (POCA) is interested in receiving proposals for its 2020 POCAfest in RI.
The event will take place in RI from Friday, October 23 through Sunday, October 25th, 2020. We are looking for proposals that will explore topics within the context of our organization and mission. Deadline to submit is April 15th.

About the proposals:

Community acupuncturists, cooperators, researchers, scholars, community activists, collective entrepreneurs, public servants, acupunks, auricular acutechs/ear acupuncturists, people committed to grassroots community-based healthcare and cooperative educators are encouraged to submit a proposal. We are specifically interested in the following formats:
+ Workshops
+ Experiential sessions
+ Panel presentations
+ Keynotes

Application process:
Interested candidates or organizations must send the following documents in order for their application to be considered:
+ A short summary of your idea, including a title and proposed time length (350 words or less)*.
+ A bio or resume. Please share a little about yourself and why you would like to teach this class.
+ Your contact information (name, institution or organization represented and title, phone number, email address).
+ Any other relevant information.

*Please note that this short summary and title may be included in promotional material for this event (such as pamphlets, social media or the website).

The deadline for submissions is April 15th, 2020 by 11:59pm (EST). Proposals received after the deadline might not be considered. An evaluation committee will meet to assess the relevance of each proposal. Selected candidates or organizations will be contacted via phone or email. Please note that no honorarium will be paid and that accepted individuals or organizations will have to register for POCAfest (a discounted rate will be offered).

Thank you for considering sharing your time, energy and experience with our community at POCAfest-RI 2020. Our goal is to include as many voices as possible from a diverse base of experiences and identities, while making the process transparent and accessible.

Just an update: this is now a virtual conference. Exact dates and times TBD! Input welcome! We want to maximize the number of people who can attend - so maybe a weekend is not actually the best time to have it. Maybe weekdays during the day would actually be better. But what weekdays? Hmmmmmm. Virtual world is so different.

I am just confirming that the virtual POCAfest is replacing the previously planned autumn Rhode Island POCAfest. [sad faces]

Once Events Circle has hashed out more details someone will post an updated call for presenters.
