TO APPLY for A MICRO-LOAN:
Be POCA members in good standing- for some loans there is a 1 year prior membership requirement,
Complete the entire loan application to be considered,
Support POCA's mission directly with their micro-loan.
Meet all requirements to be listed on POCA's Locate-A-Clinic listing
Maintain a POCA membership in good standing for the duration of the loan.
Create media that POCA can publish about its mico-loan program,
Be asked to talk with other co-op members seeking micro-loans,
Re-pay the loan within the agreed upon timeline.
The Under-Served Area Loan is intended specifically for POCA members who do not currently own an acupuncture clinic and who are planning to open a clinic in an underserved area. It is up to the applicant to define and prove the location as underserved. The proposed clinic must maintain a POCA membership for the duration of the loan and provide Community Acupuncture as its primary function. In addition to supporting POCA’s mission: to make acupuncture available and accessible to as many people as possible and to support those providing acupuncture to create stable and sustainable businesses and jobs this loan is intended to bring CA to a new area.
Proposals for clinics that aspire to be BDC (Big Damn Clinics) will be preferred, as well as those that have the clear ability to grow to BDC size. A BDC is a POCA clinic that is large enough to hold 18 or more chairs. We recommend that you have a partner, employee or support staff of some kind to start. An Under-Served Area loan recipient can borrow up to $7,500, with a repayment period 1 to 5 years.
The Employee Ho! Loan is intended specifically for POCA Punk/Student members who are re-locating to begin work as an employee at a POCA member clinic. Community Acupuncture jobs often start as part-time (until a new punk can attract and build full shifts). This loan is designed to help smooth out some of the wrinkles of moving, starting a new job and building busy punking shifts. This loan helps support workers in their move and first months of living expenses. The destination clinic must be a POCA member in good standing and provide Community Acupuncture as its primary function.
An Employee Ho! loan recipient can borrow up to $1000 - $3000, with a repayment period of up to 2 years.
The BDC (Big Damn Clinic) Expansion Loan is for provider (clinic) members of the People’s Organization of Community Acupuncture (POCA), who are expanding operations to include 18 or more chairs. This loan is meant for clinic enhancements that directly make your clinic bigger and/or busier. Some examples include: taking down walls, buying more chairs, hiring employees, patching that hole in the floor, bringing reception on to all shifts, or moving into a larger space. An emphasis on function and practicality is emphasized over aesthetic appeal. Eligible members must be POCA members in good standing and will have been POCA members for at least 1 year prior to applying for this loan.
The BDC Size Expansion loan recipient can borrow up to $5,000, with a repayment period of one year at most.
The Second Time Plus Loan is intended specifically for POCA Community Acupuncture (CA) clinic owners (sole proprietors, partners, non-profits, LLC, etc.) who are opening another POCA Clinic in an underserved area. It is up to the applicant to define and prove the location as underserved. Current and proposed clinics must follow be POCA members in good standing. BDC (Big Damn Clinic) sized proposals are preferred. A BDC is a POCA Clinic that is large enough to hold 18 or more chairs. For applicants opening a 3rd (or more) clinic, information about your other clinics must be provided as part of the application process.
