As Seen in O, the Oprah Magazine

If all POCA clinics would like to add that as a tagline, they totally can:

http://www.oprah.com/health_wellness/group-acupuncture

https://www.instagram.com/p/BleXqqTDfIg/?taken-by=tucsonacupuncturecoop

This isn't my favorite mainstream press mention of POCA, and the photo is kind of alarming-- what is going on in that photo? -- but the fact remains that POCA's full name and url were spelled out on page 75 of the July print edition of O magazine. I can't even speculate what that would cost if we had had to pay for it. Reiterating an earlier blog post: the way to succeed at PR without really trying is to be a co-op.

Any publicity is good publicity. O magazine has a circulation of 12 million readers per issue! Hopefully, we get some new POCA members out of this. Not that I care about celebrity stuff, but imagine if Oprah became a member. The best part is we didn’t have to pay for advertising.

Thanks for the link! And speaking of links…the online article has an actual link to this very website.

That picture, though…I did not want to see a larger version of it.

Despite what the article says, community acupuncture can treat complex conditions. Feel free to write to the editor so they can make this correction in the August issue.

Also, use this link where you can fill out a web-based form for feedback and corrections. https://www.oprah.com/plug_sg.html?plug_id=s3/3627627/What-s-your-opinion

We could also tell send a more appropriate picture of community acupuncture and put a one-sentence plug for becoming a POCA member (1 free tx on your birthday and 3 free treatments for friends and family)

O Magazine kindly give us free publicity and I have the audacity to ask for correction:

    Dear O Magazine Staff,

Thank you for your recent article about Community Acupuncture.
    http://www.oprah.com/health_wellness/group-acupuncture

Getting recognition from a magazine of your caliber means a lot to us.  But, I would be remiss if I did not point out some inaccuracies.  POCA clinics frequently treat patients with complicated conditions because complicated conditions tend to require a lot of acupuncture.  For an average wage earning person, the cost of private room acupuncture would be unattainable if they needed a to receive treatments regularly and often.

Additionally, patients do not disrobe in POCA clinics. We encourage patients to roll up their sleeves and pant legs to access distal points.  We do this to make the group treatment setting as safe as possible, especially for people who have experienced trauma.

I would be more likely to share this article if the photo reflected what an average POCA clinic looks like and if the comment about “complicated conditions” was redacted.

    Thank you for your consideration.

    Sincerely,
    Elizabeth Ropp
