The Power of Miriam Lee’s 10 Points.

Last week, Feburary 25 Wednesday, I was determined to give myself a much-needed treatment before going to work.I managed to get 35 minutes under the Miriam Lee combo, and barely woke up in time.I got there on the dot, but two patients were there already, and things were a little strange! One of my outside chairs had been thrown out of place about 20 feet, and had muddy footprints on the seat.My massage therapist neighbor’s door was wide open (very unusual) and everyone was upset. They told me that the night before someone had broken into our building, busted all our entry doors and the security lights, had made a huge hole (about 20” in diameter) in the wall between both clinics, crawled through the hole into my neighbor’s place…..and I stepped into the neighbor’s room and saw her things strewn all over the rooms, the drywall pieces littered alongside the hole, and my grass mat wall covering shredded at the hole edges on the other side.I unlocked my front door and stepped in and everything looked serene as usual, until I walked around the office screens and saw the mess at the wall. The drawers had cupboard doors had all been opened, but aside from the mess at the hole, there wasn’t a whole lot of evidence at first glance that the place had been violated.

Later I found all kinds of evidence, and there was some damage (about $150 worth) but what was interesting is that my patients were saying, “Wow, you’re really good with this!”Because all I could do was look around and make some mild comments like “How interesting.”The offender had thoughtfully done his damage between two recliners, so there was a minimum of damage from his sledge-hammer work.We left the mess for the rest of the day, because the police didn’t want us to move anything. Two patients tried to put the inner door together so it would close, but it didn’t.And I saw 23 patients that afternoon while police and the landlord tiptoed in and out.

I considered myself lucky, because my place had been relatively undisturbed compared to my unfortunate neighbor’s .He had eaten her food (she had her place set up like an apartment), used the toilet, showered and taken her towel after rummaging through her clothes, rolodex, and everything else.I felt blessed because I don’t keep anything of worldly value in the clinic and I had balanced myself with acupuncture before going to work.At the end of the day my clinic helper and my husband came over with a vacuum cleaner and cleaning equipment and helped mop things up.The next day someone came to restore the wall, and left with an invitation to return with his girlfriend for a sample treatment, and the landlord had a slew of security lights added all over the building.I want to add that the calming effect of those points did not evaporate after a few hours, but helped keep me steady all day.

Last of all, but certainly not least of all, I would like to think that the ambience and the presence of the pointed hat folks in the clinic did not allow the intruder to express his negative qualities.

    Moving on

    Lumiel,

I am so sorry to hear that this happened, but thanks for the reminder about just accepting things as they are and moving on.

It reminds me of the Tibetan story of the boy who finds a wild horse and says “how lucky”, and his grandfather says “we’ll see”. The boy gets on the wild horse, gets bucked, breaks his leg, and all the villagers bemoan the boy’s fate and say “how terribly unlucky”. The grandfather says “we’ll see”.

The Chinese army (or maybe it was the Mongols at the time of the story) comes through town conscripting all able bodied youth to join the army - the boy with the broken leg is left at home with his family. “How lucky”....“we’ll see”, says the grandfather, and so on.

I rely on these points for a good chunk of my treatments.  They are very powerful.  I’ve always been a needle minimalist.  Sometimes when I see how many needles other people use, I feel inadequate, but when I read Miriam Lee’s book, it affirms that using just a few simple points is very effective.
I’m glad you and your neighbor are safe, and that you’ve managed the situation so well.  The lesson in your story could also be “put on your own oxygen mask before assisting your neighbor.”  We have to take care of ourselves to be available to help others.

    One of these days

I think I’ll declare a Miriam Lee Day and charge $1 for treatments and use Miriam’s 10 points on everybody and see if I can see 80 people in that day.

The only challenge to doing this would be to make sure

that the 80 show up to get treated.  Marketing, publicity, beating the local bushes to get folks interested.  We could easily organize for that day, getting a few helpers to fluff the chairs and sign ‘em in, direct them to the bathroom, waiting area, etc.  I know I could do physically it if I ate a nourishing breakfast that day and just sipped fresh veggie juice all day, with a few bathroom breaks.  In publicizing the event, the public could be educated about the genesis of American acupuncture and Miriam Lee.

    Brilliant plan!

We’ve been having such amazing results with auricular treatments we’re thinking of offering buckanear day sometime - maybe on international “talk like a pirate day.” I love the idea of a Miriam Lee 10 point treatment day, too!

So glad to hear nobody was hurt and hope that your clean burglar is soon discovered.

My wife has told me that (in all my free time) I should become M.Lee’s biographer.  I’ve toyed with the idea of contacting Susan Johnson and Esther Su and seeing what kind of info I could get.  I think a wonderful book could be made about her.

    Hey Comrades,

If anyone is still paying attention to our idea of a Miriam Lee Day, here’s a sweet reply from Susan Johnson’s staff:

    Dear Lumiel,
Thank you for your message asking about Miriam’s birthday, and for your efforts. Her birthday is Dec. 9th, and Susan believes that she was born in
1925, but she’s not 100% sure of that. She could try to find out for sure, but would need a reminder as we get a little closer to that date.
Many thanks again, and warm wishes to you.

Coolness, eh?  What say we launch this Dec. 9?
